CHANDIGARH: Breaking away from the conventional mould of a father who shrugged away from things like shopping for their kids, being their confidants, changing nappies or playing games with them, these days fathers are more involved and are enjoying each moment of raising their kids. We got talking to first time dads, on the occasion of Father’s Day, who could not quite contain their joy on becoming parents.
Rajiv Sharma, a Sector 8 resident, is excited about not missing out on the growing up years of his child. “On this Father’s Day I have resolved to shower my daughter with love. I’ll be a hands-on dad, who would also be changing my new-born’s nappies.”
Not averse to cooking for his children and helping his wife dress them up, Tanveer Singh, a businessman said, “My beautiful wife has just given birth to twins and though they are still young, I have decided to help them in all aspects -- from their homework to dishing out some scrumptious food for them.”
Fathers today are not only playing the role of providers and protectors but are also nurturers, who provide emotional support to their kids. For people of earlier generations, fathers were a distant figure. But today they are far removed from the stereotype of the cold, impersonal, unemotional father figure.
“Although I have been very busy since the last one week after my wife gave birth to our daughter, I am very excited about Father’s Day, as the day reinforces the value of being a father,” smiles Pulkit Talwar, a resident of Sector 15. He added, “My father was not very close to me as he was always busy with his work but I have promised myself to give my little daughter ample time.”
